Are you done with all those plastic bags and looking for something sturdy, looks nice, and is easy to carry?
This bag from old rice sacks was made by widows of a widow cooperative in Sri Lanka. They have made a series of very nice bags from old rice bags. Nice and sturdy, with a nice lining and inner pocket, and easy to fold and take with you when you're not using it.
The bag is made in different colors and the nice thing is that you can see from the print that they come from Sri Lanka and are not a 13-in-a-dozen bag, but a unique and handmade product.
This bag is ideal to always have with you if you have to do unexpected shopping, or if you want to transport something else easily. The sturdy material can take a beating and some rain and because this bag is unique, you won't lose it easily. The thick cord ensures that you can easily carry this bag so that your groceries are transported safely.
Because the bag is made from old rice sacks, you can also immediately upcycle it. The old rice sacks would otherwise be thrown away. Now they get a second life and you contribute to a more sustainable world.
As we mentioned above; these bags are made by Widow Cooperative from northern Sri Lanka. Due to the civil war that raged until 2009, there are many war widows in Sri Lanka. They try to provide for their income by making these bags, but the beautiful square wicker baskets are also theirs.
